Mumps

Mumps, also known as epidemic parotitis, is a viral disease caused by the mumps virus. Initial signs and symptoms often include fever, muscle pain, headache, and feeling tired. This is then usually followed by painful swelling of one or both parotid salivary glands.

Cause

❄ Swelling of salivary glands, neck and face
❄ Headache, fatigue, loss of appetite
❄ Low fever and vomiting
❄ The swelling may be near the lower ear and jawbone

Symptoms

Mumps is mainly caused by the invasion of virus in the salivary glands. The parotid glands are usually the most affected, which is located on each side of the face, just below the front of the ear. Usually the disease last for about two weeks. Wrong diet can worsen the disease, so it is important to follow a very healthy diet to get rid of the disease.

1. Ginger:
Moreover, apply ginger or garlic paste onto the affected part.

2. Baking Soda:
Combine a dash of baking soda and a little water to make a paste. Apply it on the cheeks. Leave it for 2 minutes and wash off with lukewarm water. Do this thrice a day.

3. Chebulic Myrobalan:
Put one or two Chebulic myrobalan fruits in the sun for five to six hours. Grind the dried Chebulic myrobalan in a mixer with a little water to make a paste. Apply the paste externally on the areas of the throat and neck where there is swelling. Follow this remedy two or three times daily for a week to get relief from the symptoms.

4. Sacred Fig:
Clean one or two large sacred fig leaves and then smear them with clarified butter or oil. Warm the leaves and apply them over the affected area. Secure them in place with tape or a bandage and leave them on for at least half an hour. Do this twice daily for about a week for best results.

5. Aloe Vera:
Aloe Vera juice and gel are excellent remedies for many health problems, including the mumps. Take a fresh Aloe Vera leaf and slice it, so that its natural gel is exposed. Rub this gel on to the area that is inflamed, for relied from the pain and swelling.
